Shiroi Majo

Set against the brutal, snow-swept battlefields of the Finnish Winter War, Shiroi Majo chronicles the harrowing experiences of one of history’s most formidable marksmen. As the Soviet Union launches a massive invasion into Finland in 1939, the vastly outnumbered Finnish forces are forced to rely on unconventional tactics and the unforgiving winter landscape to defend their homeland. Amidst this desperate struggle for survival, the story centers on Simo Häyhä, a quiet farmer turned soldier whose extraordinary skill with a rifle soon transforms him into a living legend among his comrades and a terrifying phantom to his enemies. Operating alone in the freezing wilderness, Häyhä utilizes his intimate knowledge of the terrain and unmatched patience to execute precise strikes against advancing troops. Cloaked entirely in white camouflage, he moves unseen through the deep snow, earning the chilling moniker that gives the manga its title. The narrative immerses readers in the intense psychological and physical toll of warfare, capturing both the stark isolation of his missions and the broader conflict raging around him. Through his eyes, the manga delivers a gripping, historically grounded portrayal of resilience, tactical brilliance, and the grim realities faced by those defending their nation against overwhelming odds.
