Otoboke Kachou

Otoboke Kachou is a four-panel manga series created by Masashi Ueda. Originally serialized in the magazine Manga Time beginning in 1981, the work has continued its run uninterrupted to the present day, establishing itself as an enduring staple of comedic sequential art. The narrative centers on the daily misadventures of its namesake protagonist, a corporate section chief known simply as Otoboke. Within the structured environment of his workplace, he occupies a position that traditionally commands respect and authority. However, his professional title stands in stark contrast to his actual demeanor. Otoboke is defined by a deeply contradictory personality: he carries himself with an inflated sense of self-importance and pompous pride, yet he is simultaneously prone to spectacular clumsiness. This fundamental disconnect between his grandiose attitude and his bumbling execution serves as the primary engine for the story's humor. Each installment chronicles the comical trials and tribulations that arise as this inept manager attempts to navigate his responsibilities. Whether he is issuing misguided directives or stumbling through routine office interactions, his klutzy nature constantly undermines his authoritative facade. The resulting friction between his unwarranted arrogance and his unavoidable physical mishaps delivers a continuous stream of lighthearted workplace comedy.
