Nyx no Lantern

Set in 1878 amidst a rapidly modernization-driven Japan, the narrative unfolds in Nagasaki and follows Miyo, a young orphan of the Satsuma Rebellion. She finds employment at Vingt, a local curio shop owned by Momotoshi Koura. Within the store, a fascinating array of imported novelties acquired from the Paris Exhibition—ranging from elegant dresses and sewing machines to binoculars and boots—captivates her inquisitive spirit. As she navigates her daily duties, Miyo also relies on a clairvoyant ability she has held since early childhood. Against a vivid historical backdrop portraying a bustling Nagasaki alive with merchants and courtesans, the story captures a period of profound transition. The plot gracefully balances Miyo's personal maturation and her blossoming romantic feelings toward Momotoshi with the gradual unveiling of her employer's mysterious past. Richly informed by meticulous historical research, the manga integrates authentic period details and educational mini-columns about the various antiques featured throughout the chapters, lending a remarkable sense of depth and realism to the unfolding drama.
