Sparks of Tomorrow

Set in the summer of 1907 during the fortieth year of the Meiji era, Sparks of Tomorrow follows fifteen-year-old Inako Momokawa, the second daughter of a sake brewer living in Kyoto’s Fushimi district. Plagued by constant mistakes and daily scoldings from her strict father, Inako finds solace only in her quiet prayers to the gods. Her routine shifts dramatically when she encounters Kihachi Sakamoto, a free-spirited young man at the Fushimi Inari shrine who openly rejects traditional beliefs and passionately champions the dawning age of electricity. When Inako’s father abruptly arranges her marriage without consulting her, she feels utterly powerless and on the verge of surrendering hope. It is Kihachi who coaxes out her desperate desire to escape her family. He reveals that the only way to halt the impending wedding is to recover a peculiar manuscript he authored as a child: the "Electricity Catalog," a visionary book predicting the future of electrical technology. However, his older brother Seiroku took the manuscript years ago, and its current location remains a mystery. Determined to change her fate, Inako joins Kihachi on an adventurous search for the lost catalog across Kyoto and Shiga prefectures.
