Scum of the Brave

Set in the mid-twenty-first century, Tokyo has become a battleground where the criminal underworld wields terrifying supernatural power. Members of the city's mafia possess the ability to transform into Demon Lords augmented by a mysterious substance known as ether. To combat this escalating threat, specialized warriors called Braves dedicate themselves to hunting down these monstrous figures and restoring order to the streets. Yashiro, a fearsome operative known as the Grim Reaper, prefers to work alone but is unexpectedly burdened with a new apprentice. Aki Jogamine is an ordinary high school girl who has declared herself his student, determined to train and eventually become a Brave in her own right. Though Yashiro accepts the arrangement with deep reluctance, their partnership quickly thrusts him into a relentless series of dangerous and unpredictable cases that he would have gladly avoided. What follows is a gripping supernatural saga defined by the stark contrast between its two central figures. As they navigate a treacherous urban landscape teeming with ether-enhanced threats, the unlikely dynamic between a cynical, scoundrel-like master and his fiercely self-proclaimed apprentice sets the stage for a chaotic and thrilling conflict.
