Midori no Makibao

Midori no Makibao follows the remarkable journey of Midori Makibao, a small white racehorse whose physical appearance sets him apart from typical thoroughbreds. With his unusually wide nostrils and diminutive stature, he is often mistaken for a donkey rather than a competitive racer. These physical disadvantages make his professional debut incredibly difficult, as the racing world initially dismisses him based on his unconventional look. Despite these early setbacks, Makibao possesses extraordinary courage and blistering speed, weapons that ultimately allow him to triumph in every major race he enters. Makibao’s drive to s쳮d stems from deeply personal motivations. He is fueled by an intense rivalry with a formidable opponent named Superhorse Cascade, a lifelong competitor whom he is determined to defeat. Beyond this rivalry, Makibao carries a heartbreaking emotional burden: his mother was taken away from their farm to settle an outstanding debt. His ultimate goal is to win enough races to bring her back home. Through relentless perseverance, Makibao overcomes countless hardships, rising through a grueling series of competitions to prove himself as a truly great racehorse. The manga was honored with the Shogakukan Manga Award for children's manga in 1997.
