Summary

Official Details
Originally debuting as a short prototype story in 1986, Jungle King Tar-chan began its official serialization in Weekly Shōnen Jump in 1988. The series initially presented itself as a simple gag manga parodying the classic Tarzan mythos through brief, single-chapter adventures. These early stories, typically only seven pages in length, followed Tar-chan as he comically protected the peace of his home, his partner Jane, and his animal friends. Two years into its run, the series underwent a significant transformation. The title was updated to New Jungle King Tar-chan, chapter lengths expanded to thirteen to fifteen pages, and the narrative shifted from episodic comedy to an action-oriented fighting manga. While extended battles and emotional character development took center stage during these arcs, the series maintained its comedic roots by reverting to its original gag style between conflicts. Despite being titled Jungle King Tar-chan, the characters actually reside on a savanna, with a traditional jungle setting never appearing in the story.
