Pick of the Litter

At the age of ten, Riku Fukagawa was discovered with no memories and no family to claim him. Despite this difficult beginning, he spends the next five years building a stable and fulfilling life for himself. However, everything changes during an ordinary visit to a flea market, where he unexpectedly encounters his true relatives. Without hesitation, they sweep him away from the world he knows and transport him to Yamato, an alternate realm that strikingly mirrors Edo-period Japan. Once there, his family reveals a startling truth about his identity and heritage. They explain that Riku, alongside four of his five brothers and two cousins, is responsible for operating the Hiyokoya Store, a prominent business located in the capital of Yamato. Overwhelmed by these sudden revelations, Riku struggles to accept their claims about his past and his supposed role within the family enterprise. Yet, faced with their unwavering affection and fierce protectiveness, he finds it impossible to turn them away entirely. Choosing to meet them halfway, he agrees to take on a part-time position at the store, stepping cautiously into a new life while still questioning the extraordinary reality his family has presented to him.
