Lao Wang is a middle-aged man employed in the security department of a college situated within a sprawling university town. For years, he has maintained a quiet and uneventful existence, accustomed to the predictable rhythms of campus life. His peaceful routine is disrupted when Xiao Wang, a newly enrolled freshman, becomes embroiled in a heated conflict with his roommate. The situation escalates enough that their academic counselor intervenes, escorting the troubled student directly to the security office for mediation. On this particular foggy winter day, inside a quiet room within the department, Lao Wang and Xiao Li find themselves reflecting on the distinct paths their lives have taken. Each man quietly contemplates his own experiences, yet beneath this stillness, an unexpected event is poised to unfold. As the tension of the moment lingers in the cold air, the broader university town remains undisturbed, waiting silently for the dawn of the next day just as it always has.
