Shigeo is a tightly wound elementary school student whose singular focus in life is academic excellence. Living with his mother, he views every waking moment as an opportunity to secure his future through top grades and relentless study. He holds deep resentment toward his estranged father, Hanao, an idealistic free spirit who refuses to grow up. Where Shigeo sees discipline and ambition, Hanao embodies carefree spontaneity, dedicating his boundless energy and childlike enthusiasm to his absolute obsession: the sport of baseball. Despite their stark differences, Shigeo’s mother insists that her son spend time visiting his father, forcing the boy out of his carefully structured routine. What begins as a reluctant obligation soon transforms into an unexpected education of a different kind. Through Hanao’s playful antics and unwavering passion for baseball, Shigeo is gradually exposed to a worldview far removed from textbooks and test scores. Under the guidance of his deeply immature yet earnest father, the young boy starts to discover that true fulfillment extends well beyond the classroom, offering him lessons about joy, freedom, and the broader meaning of life itself.
