Boogerly Love

Hanako is a quiet, deeply timid child who spends her days standing on the sidelines, silently watching other children play together. Despite her longing to be part of their games, she lacks the courage to step forward and ask if she can join them. Her hesitation keeps her isolated, trapped in a cycle of observation rather than participation, as she struggles to find the confidence needed to connect with those around her. Her solitary existence takes an extraordinary turn one day when a bizarre entity known as Booger Gal suddenly rockets out from within her. This startling and unexpected emergence completely shatters Hanako’s quiet routine. With the arrival of this unusual companion, Hanako is propelled into an entirely different reality, finding herself guided toward a fresh, unfamiliar life that she never could have imagined on her own. Boogerly Love is an animated short film produced as a 2022 graduate work from the Department of Animation at the Graduate School of Film and New Media, Tokyo University of the Arts.
