Summary

Official Details
In medieval Japan, the feudal lord Nobuhira rules his domain with absolute tyranny, subjecting the local peasants to relentless cruelty. He murders villagers for sport to test the sharpness of his blade, deliberately cultivating a climate of terror that forces the farmers into blind obedience. Driven toward starvation, the people are crushed under ever-increasing rice taxes extracted through coercion, the abduction of women, and hostage-taking. Every desperate attempt at rebellion is swiftly and violently drowned in blood before it can take root. The fragile balance of fear shifts when a crippled monk arrives in the territory. He attributes the region’s suffering to the curse of the revered akame—creatures that are, in truth, nothing more than ordinary rabbits and the primary food source for the local population. Desperate for salvation, the starving peasants begin to worship the rabbits, fervently praying for their protection. This sudden religious devotion to the animals they once hunted quickly draws the dangerous attention of Lord Nobuhira, who views the peasants' newfound reverence as yet another challenge to his iron-fisted authority.
