Lighting a Candle in the Darkness: Our Anti-War Comic Anthology

This anthology presents a poignant collection of short stories united by a powerful anti-war theme. Through diverse artistic voices, the volume explores the human cost of conflict and the quiet acts of resistance that define everyday life during times of unrest. The featured works range from intimate personal journeys to broader societal reflections, including a tale about a man drawn into antiwar activism, a story following daily life within an opera house in a war-torn country, and various other narratives examining peace, hope, and the struggles of ordinary people facing extraordinary circumstances. Several stories ground their themes in deeply relatable interpersonal dynamics. In one narrative, Megumi feels embarrassed by her mother's outspoken antiwar protests until a classmate's unwavering support for serving maqluba at the school cultural festival shifts her perspective. Another follows Mio, who is perceived as the school idiot, and her friendship with Kazuha, a knowledgeable but eccentric girl. Their bond fractures after a conversation about wartime food, highlighting the vital importance of clear communication and empathy toward others. Together, these interconnected tales form a moving testament to compassion, mindfulness, and the enduring desire for peace.
