Opium

In 1946, the war-torn landscape of Choseon struggles under the weight of corruption and devastation. Dr. Maria Arden, a beautiful and brilliant physician born in Korea, returns to her homeland serving as a medical advisor for the United States Army. Despite her roots, she finds herself an outsider navigating a fractured nation desperate for stability. Amid this turbulent environment, she crosses paths with Dr. Kyeongju Lee, an alluring yet enigmatic woman who has been cast out by society. What begins as innocent flirtation between two marginalized figures quickly deepens into a passionate, forbidden romance. Their connection intensifies just as a dangerous underground opium trade threatens to shatter Choseon’s already fragile peace. Bound together by their shared status as outsiders, Maria and Kyeongju are drawn helplessly toward one another while the shadows of illicit commerce and societal decay close in around them. However, beneath the surface of their intense devotion lies a devastating truth. As the stakes rise and the illegal narcotics market tightens its grip on the country, Maria discovers that everything she believed about their relationship was built on deception.
