Boys of Summer

Years ago, Bud walked away from baseball as a silent act of defiance against the father he believed had abandoned him. His parents’ divorce came with almost no warning, severing the bond he shared with the man who had once been his closest companion on and off the diamond. Without offering a single explanation, his father moved out, leaving behind a void that Bud filled with quiet resentment. Months later, a desperate phone call shattered that fragile distance. Overcome by regret, his father attempted suicide and reached out to Bud’s mother for help. But it was Bud who answered the ringing phone. Racing against time, he arrived only moments too late to save the man he had once loved so deeply. Stripped of everything but grief, all Bud could do was hold his dying father in his arms, waiting helplessly for an ambulance that would not come in time.
