Unbreakable: Yaburezaru Monotachi

Set against the oppressive backdrop of 1925 Japan, Unbreakable: Yaburezaru Monotachi unfolds during the enforcement of the Peace Preservation Law, a sweeping mandate designed to suppress anyone suspected of harboring Marxist ideologies. Amid this climate of intense political scrutiny, proletarian writer Takiji Kobayashi resolves to expose the brutal realities faced by the working class. He selects the grueling and dangerous conditions aboard a crab cannery ship as the central subject for his next novel, determined to give voice to those exploited by an unforgiving system. However, Kobayashi’s unwavering commitment to his craft quickly places him in grave danger. His literary ambitions attract the immediate attention of a specialized police task force responsible for monitoring and neutralizing ideological threats to the state. Viewing his work as a dangerous provocation, the authorities dispatch two undercover spies to infiltrate his life and closely track his every move. As the surveillance tightens around him, Kobayashi is forced to navigate a perilous path where his dedication to truth could cost him everything, setting the stage for a tense battle between artistic conviction and authoritarian control.
