Balhwa

Jeong In-Hye, a first-year student in the Department of Fine Arts, enters university hoping to escape a painful past. Haunted by deep resentment toward her older brother and an unstable family life, she quietly wishes she could simply vanish. Her turbulent freshman year intensifies alongside her roommate, Ahn Soo-Jin, who navigates campus with effortless ease. As In-Hye spends more time by her side, a growing sense of inferiority takes hold, forcing her to relive old traumas while desperately trying to channel her passion for art into a functional daily routine. Instead of finding solace, In-Hye is overwhelmed by inexplicable impulses that only push people further away. Amidst this isolation, Ryu Mu-Yeong, a perceptive classmate who seems to see straight through her emotional walls, begins closing the distance between them. What follows is a campus life entangled in complicated threads of affection, resentment, and obsession. Rendered as a striking black-and-white psychodrama racing toward the light, Balhwa explores the fragile boundaries of human connection, ultimately asking whether such turmoil might simply be another form of love.
