The Star Wars Manga: The Empire Strikes Back presents a manga-style retelling of the classic film. Illustrated by Toshi Kudo and David Land, the series directly adapts the screenplay written by Lawrence Kasdan and George Lucas. While faithfully rooted in the original story, the manga features minor deviations from its cinematic source. As an official film adaptation, it is regarded in a similar light as the Episode V novelization, holding a canon status just beneath G-level continuity and superseding other Expanded Universe materials. Nevertheless, among all available adaptations, this manga is generally considered to occupy the lowest tier of the canon hierarchy.
