Summary

Official Details
Following the death of his father, Masami Takeuchi is cast out of his family home by his uncle. Although he appears to take the eviction in stride, the circumstances surrounding his father's demise suggest a dark and unresolved mystery. Left with a meager allowance that is far from enough to afford decent housing, Takeuchi resorts to secretly living at his school. Sensing his plight, his cute classmate Kagome Nishino—whom he harbors a major crush on—steps in to help him search for a place to stay, though her own feelings toward him remain uncertain. Nishino soon announces that she has discovered the ideal apartment. She promptly brings Takeuchi to a bare, unfurnished room and persuades him to move in immediately, leaving him to spend his very first night there alone on the bare floor without even a futon. However, Nishino has hidden motives. As an avid occult enthusiast who has just established a paranormal research club at school, she deliberately chose the apartment because of its reputed haunting—a crucial detail she neglected to share. That night, terrifying supernatural occurrences erupt around Takeuchi, leaving him nearly paralyzed with fear. The next morning, Nishino and a faculty advisor assisting her paranormal club realize the gravity of the haunting. Desperate for authentic expertise, they attempt to recruit another student, Kagome Kusaka. Unlike Nishino, Kusaka hails from an ancestral lineage of shrine maidens and possesses genuine psychic abilities; however, she despises the paranormal and has repeatedly rejected invitations to join the club. Everything changes the moment Kusaka meets Takeuchi. Detecting something extraordinary about him, she takes an immediate interest in him and quickly reverses her decision to join. As she later reveals to him, she believes Takeuchi holds the key to freeing her from the burdensome "curse" of her spiritual powers—an emancipation possible only by breaking her mandatory maidenhood.
