The evil son of the Lin family became the first assistant, and the whole family knelt at the entrance of the village and cried.

Lin Yan transmigrates into a sickly youth in Peach Blossom Village. His first day begins with a butcher arriving to claim his younger sister—his grandmother, desperate to fund his cousin's schooling, has sold the girl into marriage. Seizing a woodcutter's axe, Lin Yan slams it into the doorframe, forcing his grandmother to yield and his uncle to sign a formal renunciation. His sister is saved, and he utters a single vow: "I will study." With no land, no grain, and no backers, he forges his own path. He digs wild ginseng, makes soap, produces ice with saltpeter, and sells braised meat—building his fortune step by step to fund his rise through the imperial examinations. He claims top honors at every level: county champion, prefectural champion, provincial top graduate, regional scholar, and finally the Grand Scholar, riding through the capital in triumph. Entering court, the Grand Tutor offers a marriage alliance; Lin Yan refuses openly: "This minister pledges his body to the state." The humiliated Grand Tutor schemes against him, sending him to certain death on the border. With barbarian forces invading, supply lines cut, and no reinforcements arriving, Lin Yan leads five hundred new troops in a night raid behind enemy lines. His second brother slays the barbarian crown prince. When the Great Khan retaliates with fifty thousand cavalry, Lin Yan launches a thousand-mile assault, claiming the Khan's head and sealing his legend. His victory stuns the capital, earning him a marquisate on the spot. Desperate, the Grand Tutor colludes with assassins to usurp the throne. Lin Yan exposes the conspiracy, leads his troops to defend the emperor, and annihilates the Tutor's entire clan. He then suppresses regional princes, dismantles entrenched noble houses, reforms taxation, and pacifies the eastern frontier. From Peach Blossom Village to the Hall of Supreme Harmony, from a frail outcast to Duke Protector of the Realm. The grandmother who once cursed him as a jinx kneels at the village gate, begging him to reclaim the family name. Meanwhile, his eldest brother becomes the realm's wealthiest merchant, his second brother enfeoffed as Duke of Zhen, his youngest sister oversees three hundred schools for girls nationwide, his mother wears the robes of a noble matron, and Zhao Wanning waits at home with honeyed ice water. The disowned son who carved his own path to the top—within ten years, every branch of his house shone in purple and scarlet.
