The African Emperor

In the late 19th century, as the great powers rose and carved up the world, Africa remained the last unclaimed territory. Liu Yide came, saw, and conquered. Years later, standing atop Mount Kilimanjaro, he surveyed the vast lands below and declared it his own "Feng Lang Ju Xu"—the ultimate frontier achievement. His cause stirred revolutionary Lin Juemin to vow that he would die content if the Han flag could fly once more. The philosopher Yan Fu argued that the Westerners were the true barbarians and thieves, and that reclaiming their own realm was nothing but just—he hailed Liu as heaven-mandated, sagely in both civil and military affairs, and worthy of continuing the orthodox lineage of the great Han. Kaiser Wilhelm II believed that if Liu's Africa joined their side, they would win the war, while Winston Churchill thanked heaven that they still had Liu Yide.
