The Indignation of Haruhi Suzumiya

The eighth installment of the *Haruhi Suzumiya* series collects two novels. In "Chief Editor★One Line," the SOS Brigade decides to publish a magazine. To declare war on the student council president, who wants to abolish the brigade, Haruhi’s leader armband instantly changes to read "Editor-in-Chief." Under her heavy pressure, Kyon, Asahina, Nagato, and Koizumi are forced to draw lots and begin writing in various genres. Poor Kyon ends up with a "romance novel," and he has no idea how he will manage to get through it. In "The Wandering Shadow," Haruhi’s classmate Banaka notices that her puppy refuses to approach a certain spot during walks, and there are rumors of ghosts in that area. When a neighbor’s dog also falls ill with a strange disease, she asks the SOS Brigade for help. Haruhi leads the group in a careful investigation, and after Nagato’s meticulous reasoning, they determine that a "silica-based life-form symbiotic information life-element" is at work, and the only way to cure the dogs is to freeze it. To do so, Nagato proposes cooperation conditions to Kyon—who never expects what she asks of him.
