In the past century, the world has gradually entered an era of supernatural awakening. People may spontaneously develop supernatural abilities around the age of adulthood, though the trigger conditions are unpredictable and entirely a matter of chance. Some unlock their powers after pulling an all-nighter, standing in the rain, or surviving a fall from a mountain; others live their entire lives without any sign of awakening. These abilities are not limitless. All supernatural powers fall into two categories: those belonging to the five major sects, and those that are unaffiliated. As the number of ordinary awakened individuals grows, disorder begins to spread. Many low-level awakened people, unbound by any sect, use their powers to oppress ordinary citizens and cause widespread chaos. The balance between the secular world and the supernatural world is on the verge of collapse.
