Yuusuke Urameshi, a 14-year-old delinquent, is given a second chance at life after sacrificing himself to save a young boy from an oncoming car. The spirit realm, caught off guard by his selfless act, offers him an opportunity to regain his life through a series of tasks. Under the guidance of Botan, the death god, Yuusuke becomes a Spirit Detective, tasked with thwarting evil presences on Earth. Joined by his former rival Kazuma Kuwabara and two demons, Hiei and Kurama, who have troubled pasts, Yuusuke embarks on a journey to protect humanity from threats to its existence.
