Takumi Fujiwara, the rising star of street racing, has been accumulating impressive victories with his AE86. However, his dominance on the tracks of Mount Akina has been threatened by a new team, the Emperor, who exclusively driver Mitsubishi four-wheel drive Lancer Evolutions, known as Lan Evos. The team's leader, Kyouichi Sudou, views Takumi's AE86 as an inferior car and believes that only drivers of high-performance machines like the Lan Evos can be considered true racing pilots. As Takumi faces off against the Emperor team, he must prove that his skills and driving abilities are not limited by his car's age and design. Can Takumi maintain his unbeaten record against the skilled and mechanically superior opponents, or will his winning streak come to an end?
