Summary

Official Details
In 1980s America, rumspringa marks a period when some Amish youths are granted the freedom to experience the outside world—a window of time in which they must choose between remaining with their community as devout Christians, or abandoning their families for a life beyond the only world they have ever known. Oz once dreamed of performing under the Broadway lights, but those ambitions have long since withered. Now he scrapes by in a small rural town, working as a waiter while selling his body as a male prostitute. One night at the bar, a young Amish man named Theo—then in the midst of his own rumspringa—appears, and Oz mistakenly brings him back to his room as a paying "customer." Unable to turn away a boy left with nowhere to go and no one to rely on, Oz reluctantly finds himself taking Theo under his wing. As the two grow closer, Oz is struck by Theo's untouched innocence. The young man knows nothing of anger or distrust, never even holding a grudge against those who mock him for his Amish upbringing. Moved by such genuine kindness, Oz slowly comes to understand that he cannot remain a prisoner of his failures in New York forever. And little by little, an unfamiliar warmth toward Theo takes root, quietly blossoming into love...
