Bungou no Oyatsu

In postwar Japan, where countless readers starved for literature queued for hours outside bookshops, rookie editor Tsubame Takanashi reports to Nekorobido—a modest literary publishing house. His assignment: retrieve the latest manuscript from the famously capricious novelist Nero Uguisudani. Arriving at Uguisudani's door with high hopes, Tsubame is instead met with an unusual demand—the manuscript will not be surrendered unless he immediately procures the author's preferred confections. Taking this as a trial of his editorial mettle, Tsubame rushes off to Ginza. In truth, however, the errand is nothing more than Uguisudani's thin pretext for buying himself more time before the final draft is due.
