Bocchi the Rock! Gaiden: Hiroi Kikuri no Fukazake Nikki

At twenty-five, Hiroi Kikuri has long since abandoned any pretense of a stable adult life. Burdened by a crushing pile of debt that she shows little inclination to settle, she finds her sole reasons for carrying on in two things: the deep, resonant growl of her bass guitar and the numbing warmth of alcohol. Her chosen home is a decrepit fifty-two-year-old apartment, a cramped space lacking even a basic bathroom and cloaked in a sordid history that makes landlords wince and neighbors whisper. It is a fitting residence for a woman whose existence teeters perpetually on the brink of chaos. Within those aging, paper-thin walls, every day is a precarious balancing act between musical passion and self-destructive indulgence. Kikuri drifts through hazy afternoons and boozy nights, her bass riffs echoing off peeling paint as she drowns out the constant gnaw of financial anxiety with another swig from a cheap bottle. The apartment’s murky past seems to mirror her own downward spiral—a dwelling as stained and questionable as her life choices—yet she meets every setback with a crooked grin and an unshakable commitment to her hedonistic code. This is the unvarnished portrait of a bassist who has traded security for fleeting freedom, following the intoxicating pull of her instrument and her drink straight into the heart of her own gloriously messy downfall.
