The Restless People

Nestled at the lawless intersection of three warring nations—Han, Zhang, and Xuan—lies Ping'an Town, a forgotten place governed by no one. Here, a sixteen-year-old boy known as Shitou runs a humble breakfast stall entirely on his own, tending to his pots, steamer baskets, and tables. He is endlessly patient with those who cannot pay and quietly gives extra buns to hungry children who try to steal from him. All he wants is to survive this chaotic era in peace, but the fate of the world has never been decided by a boy selling morning buns. Everything changes one early morning when six sword-bearing figures dressed in white take seats at his stall. Among them is the most elusive figure in the martial underworld, a person who never leaves a trace, yet deliberately reveals himself in broad daylight and calls out the name Shitou buried eight years ago. Within half a day, three separate factions converge on Ping'an Town: one arrives seeking his death, another stumbles upon the town by sheer coincidence, and the third comes for an entirely different purpose. Understanding exactly what this means, Shitou lowers his head and silently commits every face to memory. As empires shift and borders crumble, the common people are left without refuge or certainty.
