In a world where magical girls fight against witches born from curses, a mysterious entity known as Kyubey offers a familiar with the power to grant one wish to a chosen girl. However, in return, the girl must become a magical warrior and engage in battles against these malevolent creatures. Two high school students, Madoka Kaname and Sayaka Miki, are approached by Kyubey and a seasoned magical girl, Mami Tomoe, with the promise of joining their ranks. Meanwhile, a cryptic magical warrior named Homura Akemi attempts to dissuade Madoka from accepting the invitation, as the true nature of this magical world and the costs of its power remain shrouded in mystery.
