Yuki no Touge, Tsurugi no Mai

Set against the turbulent backdrop of Japan's warring states era, this manga weaves together two distinct historical narratives exploring ambition, survival, and vengeance. In the aftermath of the decisive Battle of Sekigahara, the once-powerful Satake clan is stripped of their ancestral lands in Hitachi Province and exiled to the remote northern region of Dewa. Tasked with constructing a new stronghold from scratch, the clan's lord, Yoshinobu Satake, begins favoring the counsel of his younger retainers over the seasoned wisdom of his veteran chief advisors. Feeling marginalized and threatened by this sudden shift in power, the elder vassals quietly begin plotting a desperate scheme to protect their status within the struggling domain. The second story follows Haruna, a young woman born into a humble farming family whose life is shattered when marauding soldiers assault her and murder her relatives amid the chaos of war. Driven by an unyielding desire for retribution, she steals valuable Go stones from her attackers and uses the proceeds to seek out the legendary swordsman Nobutsuna Kamiizumi. Upon enrolling in his dojo, Haruna crosses paths with Kamiizumi's dedicated apprentice, Bungorou Hikita. Recognizing her fierce resolve, he takes on the task of training her in the art of kenjutsu, instructing her with the newly invented bamboo practice sword as she prepares to hunt down the warriors who destroyed her world.
