Number Girl

Number Girl is a four-panel manga centered on sixteen middle-school clones navigating daily life at a Japanese academy. Lacking any prior history or personal memories, these identical girls are distinguished solely by the numbers one through sixteen imprinted on their right eyes. Because they were created without an understanding of societal norms, they approach every situation with absolute candor, freely voicing their unfiltered thoughts regardless of the circumstances. Their unconventional behavior places them under the constant supervision of two educators: a notoriously short-tempered teacher and her colleague, Azuma, who attempts to instill basic common sense into the group. However, the students completely disregard Azuma’s lessons, choosing instead to act purely on instinct. As they interact with their environment and each other, the sixteen clones gradually develop distinct, individualized personalities despite sharing the exact same genetic origins. This ongoing clash between the girls’ blunt honesty and the rigid expectations of their school creates a steady stream of comedic friction. Their fearless lack of inhibition frequently provokes the wrath of their easily angered instructor, turning ordinary classroom moments into chaotic encounters as the clones continue to discover what it means to be individuals.
