Phil is a young apprentice training to manage a bookshop, driven by a profound passion for literature. When his mentor learns that a nearby monastery is facing severe financial difficulties, Phil is dispatched with an offer to purchase volumes from their collection. Having long heard whispered rumors about the monastery's remarkable library, he eagerly seizes the opportunity to see it firsthand. However, upon arriving at the gates, he is abruptly turned away by a young child who adamantly refuses him entry. After finally managing to make his way inside, Phil discovers that a terrible tragedy has recently struck the monastic fellowship. To his astonishment, the child who blocked his path is revealed to be a beautiful girl of apparent noble birth.
