Island in a Puddle

For young Minato, his cramped apartment feels as isolated as a deserted island. Though he is only an elementary school student, the heavy burden of raising his younger sister, Nagisa, rests entirely on his shoulders. Their mother visits rarely, and during her long absences, Nagisa constantly pleads for answers about when she will return. Minato does his best to hold their fragile household together, navigating a childhood defined by premature responsibility and quiet loneliness. Everything shifts when their mother unexpectedly appears and takes them to a local amusement park. The brief joy of the outing shatters when she hands Minato a small amount of cash and abandons the siblings at the top of a Ferris wheel. As they sit stranded high above the ground, a sudden lightning strike hits their car. Minato braces for a tragic end, but when he finally opens his eyes, the world he discovers is nothing like the disaster he anticipated.
