Monji finds himself trapped in a painful cycle of unrequited devotion as he consoles his childhood friend Chie, who is heartbroken over a man who exploits her affection without offering genuine commitment. While Monji provides emotional support for Chie’s distress, he remains blind to the fact that he is enduring an identical dynamic in his own romantic life. His feelings for Chiba are profound and sincere, yet they are met with indifference rather than reciprocity, creating a quiet desperation beneath his supportive exterior. After spending time with friends, Monji accompanies the emotionally distant Chiba, hoping for connection but instead being led to a love hotel where his discomfort becomes palpable. The situation forces a confrontation with their unresolved history: Monji had previously confessed his love, only to discover that Chiba views him through the same transactional lens that Chie’s lover applies to her. Chiba is willing to engage physically but refuses the emotional intimacy Monji desperately seeks, leaving Monji devastated by the cruel parallel between his friend’s suffering and his own heartbreaking reality of being desired only conditionally.
