Summary

Official Details
This volume presents a historically significant collection of avant-garde short stories originally serialized in the legendary monthly manga magazine Garo between 1965 and 1973. Featuring pioneering works such as the iconic title piece "Nejishiki," "The Swamp," "Chirpy," "Mushroom Hunting," and the "Master of the Gensenkan Inn," the collection showcases the birth of surrealist, stream-of-consciousness alternative manga. Blending dreamlike logic, psychological unease, and stark post-war imagery, these influential narratives explore fragmented realities, existential dread, and the subconscious. Each story captures the defining artistic vision of the gekiga movement's most celebrated avant-garde creator, cementing this anthology as a monumental milestone in the history of adult and underground comic art.
