Suna no Eikan

During his second year, Nanashima watched his high school baseball team fall just one agonizing game short of reaching the national tournament. Now entering his third year as team captain, he faces a grim reality: the squad has drastically declined since the previous season. With their star players having graduated, Nanashima is left to lead a roster of unskilled and unmotivated athletes who seem to have no realistic chance of competing for the nationals. Everything changes when Mr. Toku, an elderly neighborhood fixture who has faithfully observed every practice and match the school has played for decades, secretly entrusts Nanashima with one million yen. The old man’s sole request is that Nanashima use the funds however he sees fit to guarantee the team finally reaches the national stage. However, possessing such a vast, untraceable sum places an overwhelming burden on the shoulders of a high school student. Even someone as genuinely well-intentioned as Nanashima must now navigate the heavy responsibility of leadership while resisting the dangerous temptations that accompany sudden, unchecked wealth.
