Haburi

When individuals are consumed by negative emotions, malevolent spirits can possess them, slowly eroding their souls until ritual purification becomes impossible. This irreversible state is known as the death phase. Driven by the agony of a decaying soul, those in the death phase lash out at the living, devouring their life force to escape their torment. To combat this threat, specialized exterminators known as Haburi dedicate themselves to eliminating the brutalization that triggers the death phase. In Saijou City, the Saikawa clan has long upheld this sacred duty. Saikawa Hitsugi, a descendant of the Saikawa clan, idolizes his father—a legendary Haburi hero who wields a massive sword called a Guillotine knife. Eager to inherit his family’s mantle, Hitsugi initially views their work with carefree admiration. However, upon discovering the true, harrowing nature of his clan’s mission, his innocent worldview shatters completely. Now burdened with deep emotional trauma and carrying the Guillotine blade on his back, the high school student is forced to step into the family trade. As he begins his terrifying battles, Hitsugi must navigate the grim reality of being a Haburi—an executioner whose solemn role mirrors that of a hearse ferrying lost souls.
