When a mortal body perishes, the soul endures. Many spirits ascend through the tiers of the spirit realm toward the light, refining their essence through study and discipline. Some are reincarnated into the physical world, while others are appointed as guardian spirits tasked with shielding living souls from the encroaching darkness that seeps upward from the underworld. Riyon, however, is an exceptionally carefree spirit who routinely abandons her lessons to idle away her time. To instill greater discipline in her, she is dispatched to the physical realm to serve as a guardian. Rather than being assigned to a human from birth, she is paired with Kasuga Soichiro, the beleaguered Prime Minister of Japan, during the final year and a half of his life. Following a sudden brush with death, Kasuga awakens with extraordinary new abilities, most notably the power to perceive Riyon directly. As a weary politician burdened by immense pressure, he now finds himself relying on an unconventional, laid-back spiritual protector. Together, they must navigate the relentless threats emerging from the shadows below and safeguard Kasuga’s battered soul before his remaining time runs out.
