Ichigo Monogatari

Fourteen-year-old Ichigo, a half-Japanese girl raised in the snowy landscapes of Lapland, is uprooted from her life following the death of her father. She relocates to Japan and is taken in by Ikuta Rintaro and his family, which includes his father, a professional writer, and his older brother Shintaro, a university student. Beneath her quiet exterior, Ichigo harbors a secret wish: she dreams of one day marrying Rintaro. However, adjusting to her new home proves difficult. Unable to read kanji, she is required to enroll in primary school alongside much younger children. Her unfamiliarity with Japanese culture and customs further complicates matters, leading to frequent misunderstandings and confusion in her daily life. Despite these challenges, Ichigo’s gentle and kindhearted nature quickly endears her to those around her, even as she struggles with fragile health. As they spend more time together, Rintaro finds himself developing genuine affection for her. Yet, just as their bond begins to deepen, Ichigo’s physical condition steadily deteriorates, casting a shadow over her hopes and their growing connection.
