Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon

Set in a Japan plagued by relentless monster attacks, Kafka Hibino earns his living cleaning up the aftermath as a member of a kaiju disposal crew. His quiet routine is disrupted when he crosses paths again with Mina Ashiro, his childhood friend who has since become a celebrated officer in the elite anti-kaiju Defense Force. Inspired by her success, Kafka resolves to chase the dream he once abandoned and enlist in the Force alongside her. However, his plans are derailed when he inexplicably transforms into a formidable creature known only as Kaiju No. 8. Determined not to let this bizarre condition ruin his ambitions, Kafka relies on the support of his younger coworker, Reno Ichikawa, to conceal his monstrous alter ego from the world. Together, they navigate the perilous path toward passing the Defense Force entrance exam so that Kafka can finally stand at Mina's side. The fragile balance shatters when a highly intelligent and mysterious kaiju launches a devastating assault on a Defense Force installation. Trapped in a desperate situation, Kafka is forced to make a critical choice that could expose his secret or cost everything he has fought to protect.
