Rinkai!

Rinkai! explores the compelling world of women's competitive cycling, a sport that first emerged in Japan during the years immediately following World War II. In its early days, this athletic pursuit captured attention and offered female competitors a rare platform to showcase their endurance and skill on the track. However, the initial wave of enthusiasm proved short-lived. After just fifteen years of organized competitions, the sport was abruptly discontinued, leaving its athletes without a stage and its legacy suspended in time. For several decades, women's professional cycling remained entirely dormant, fading into obscurity as generations passed without any formal races or structured events. The tracks stood empty, and the history of those pioneering postwar riders was largely forgotten by the broader sporting community. Yet the spirit of competition never truly vanished. The narrative takes a decisive turn with the ambitious launch of the Rinkai! League, an initiative specifically created to resurrect the long-dormant discipline. This newly formed organization sets out to rebuild the sport from the ground up, aiming to honor its historical roots while introducing it to a modern audience. By establishing fresh leagues and recruiting determined athletes, the revival effort seeks to restore women's cycling to its rightful place in the Japanese sporting landscape, breathing new life into a tradition that had been silent for far too long.
