Maki Kou is the daughter of a wealthy conglomerate family, and she faces a deeply personal mission. Her beloved grandfather has fallen ill, and she becomes determined to bring him fresh seafood—specifically, a freshly caught bigfin reef squid—to aid in his recovery. Driven by her devotion to him, she sets out toward the coast with the firm intention of securing this rare catch herself. Upon arriving at the shoreline, Maki encounters a modest beachside establishment known as the "fishing shop." There, she crosses paths with a young boy who works as an apprentice, honing his skills through ice fishing for horse mackerel at his camp. Though their backgrounds could not be more different, this chance meeting sparks a new resolve within her. Rather than simply purchasing or requesting the seafood, Maki decides to take matters into her own hands. The story truly begins when she commits to catching the bigfin reef squid herself, setting the stage for an earnest journey of determination, unexpected mentorship, and the challenges of mastering the sea.
