Riuichi Araragi is a law student who possesses a profound understanding of the fragility of human life and the disturbing ease with which people can manipulate or destroy it. This acute awareness sets him apart from his peers, driving him to act when he witnesses a man attempting to murder a child. Believing that intervention is the only morally acceptable choice, Riuichi steps in to protect the innocent, fully convinced that he is doing what any decent person should. However, his heroic actions do not earn him the support he expects.
