Yakitori: Soldiers of Misfortune

In a distant future where the solar system is carved up and controlled by rival trade federations locked in perpetual conflict, life on Earth has grown suffocating. For Akira, the restrictive conditions of his native Japan have become unbearable, driving him to seek any possible avenue of escape. Acting on the recommendation of his friend Pupkin, a military cook who understands the harsh realities of their world, Akira makes a desperate choice. He enlists as a soldier in the orbital drop infantry of one of these powerful interstellar trade federations, trading the confines of his homeland for the vast, violent unknown of space. However, the freedom Akira seeks comes at a staggering price. The orbital drop infantry units are infamous throughout the factions for their devastating seventy percent casualty rate, functioning less as elite soldiers and more as disposable assets hurled into the deadliest combat zones. Because they are so readily sacrificed on the front lines, these troops have earned a grim and fitting nickname: "Yakitori." Like the skewered meat that bears the name, these soldiers are treated as entirely expendable. Now thrust into this brutal reality, Akira must fight to survive in a merciless warzone where human lives are consumed as quickly as they are deployed.
