Bongchon Gaksi

Deep in the remote mountains, far from the prying eyes of society, lives a burly man named Bong-chun in quiet seclusion. His isolated existence takes an unexpected turn when he spends fifty sacks of rice to purchase Sun-gap, a young servant boy who has been beaten nearly to death by his cruel master. When the bewildered Sun-gap questions why anyone would pay such an exorbitant price for him, Bong-chun offers a simple but profound answer: he believed the boy would have died otherwise. Rather than treating his new acquisition as a laborer, Bong-chun shows Sun-gap nothing but gentleness. He spares the boy from heavy work and affectionately refers to him as his wife, leaving Sun-gap entirely confused yet deeply comforted by this strange kindness. For the first time in his life, Sun-gap begins to experience true peace, savoring the relief of having finally escaped the brutality of his former household. However, the tranquility of their secluded mountain life is suddenly shattered. Just as Sun-gap begins to settle into his new reality, a stranger arrives at their hidden refuge, declaring that he has come to take the boy back. This unwelcome intrusion threatens to destroy the fragile sanctuary Bong-chun built, forcing them to confront the lingering shadows of Sun-gap's past.
