Etopirika: Omoi wo Tsumugu Tori

Etopirika: A Bird That Spins Thoughts is an original net animation crafted from the firsthand testimonies of former residents of the Northern Territories. The project serves as a poignant historical record, translating deeply personal accounts into an animated format to preserve memories that might otherwise fade with time. Set against the turbulent backdrop of the final days of World War II, the narrative explores the harrowing realities faced by islanders who were abruptly forced to abandon their homeland. Through their eyes, viewers witness the sudden upheaval of peaceful lives and the profound hardship of displacement, capturing both the emotional weight and the historical gravity of being driven from one's home. The production was created with a clear educational mission: to ensure that younger generations and the broader public gain a deeper understanding of the events that unfolded in the Northern Territories at the war's end. By bringing these harsh experiences to light through accessible storytelling, the animation seeks to foster widespread awareness and build enduring momentum for the return of the islands.
