Child of Kamiari Month

Set in the historic town of Izumo within Japan's Shimane Prefecture, the story unfolds against a backdrop rich with folklore and ancient tradition. Central to this setting is the enduring myth of Kamiari, which has inspired centuries of local celebrations each October. While the rest of Japan historically referred to this period as Kannazuki—the month without gods—Izumo honors it as Kamiarizuki, the month of the gods. According to local belief, a vast multitude of deities embarks on a sacred pilgrimage during this time, converging upon the city's revered sanctuary. At the center of this deeply spiritual landscape lives Kanna, a young girl whose greatest passion is running. For her, racing is more than a pastime; it is a defining part of her identity and spirit. However, her world is shattered when she suddenly loses her mother. Overwhelmed by grief, Kanna finds herself stripped of all motivation, unable to pursue the one activity that once brought her joy. As the divine gathering approaches in a town alive with ancestral reverence, she must navigate her profound loss and confront the emotional void left behind.
