Dear Viruses

Dear Viruses is a thought-provoking animated short film conceived as a direct missive to the microscopic life forms that have profoundly shaped human existence. Rather than portraying viruses solely as adversaries, the work explores the possibility of coexistence between humanity and these invisible entities. Through a distinctly poetic lens, the film reimagines the complex, often fraught relationship between humans and viruses, offering viewers a fresh perspective on a dynamic that has defined biological history. Crafted with artistic intention, the animation invites audiences to reflect on shared existence and the delicate balance of the natural world. By shifting the narrative away from conventional conflict, it presents an introspective meditation on connection, survival, and mutual presence within the same ecosystem. The project stands as a unique exploration of biology translated into visual poetry, challenging preconceived notions about humanity's place alongside its smallest companions. This film was produced in 2021 as a first-year academic project at the Tokyo University of the Arts. It was created within the Graduate School of Film and New Media, specifically under the Department of Animation, showcasing emerging talent in experimental animated storytelling.
