Cagaster of an Insect Cage

Thirty years ago, a catastrophic plague decimated two-thirds of the human population. This apocalyptic event was not driven by conventional pathogens, but by a bizarre insect infestation that transforms its victims into grotesque half-human hybrids before they rapidly evolve into towering, rampaging monsters known as Cagasters. Despite the overwhelming threat posed by these unstoppable creatures, humanity has proven remarkably resilient. Specialized exterminators like Kidou now dedicate their lives to hunting down and eliminating the Cagasters, striking during the brief window when the infected still retain partial human characteristics. Because this transitional phase offers the only viable opportunity for a kill, exterminators are forced into a solitary existence, deliberately isolating themselves both socially and emotionally from ordinary people to maintain their lethal focus. However, Kidou’s carefully constructed detachment is tested when he is unexpectedly assigned to escort a young survivor back to her mother. Through this reluctant journey, he begins to discover that his compassion and humanity remain far more intact than he ever dared to believe.
